Located in the northwestern region of California, Trinity County is a rather large, mountainous and densely forested area. Its population is around 14,000, all rural. An interesting fact about the county is that there are no freeways, traffic signals or parking meters. Until 1999 there were no chain stores or restaurants either. The county is named after the Trinity River and its seat is Weaverville. The history of the area is closely related to the gold rush era, with many artifacts from that time period available at the J. J. Jackson Museum and Historic Park in Weaverville. The Joss House State Park provides a glimpse into the lives of Chinese miners who were searching for gold. The Highland Art Center and Sam Lee Folk Art Center display local arts and crafts. With its quiet and peaceful lifestyle, serene nature and small-town feel, Trinity County is a great place to raise a family.
