Situated in the San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Clara has a population of over 1.7 million, almost all urban. The county seat is San Jose - the primary site of Silicon Valley. The county is named after Mission Santa Clara, founded in 1777. Its original inhabitants were the Ohlone - the indigenous people of Northern California, residing on Coyote Creek and Calaveras Creek. There are hundreds of places to visit, including Almaden Quicksivler County Park, Emilio Guglielmo Winery, Mississippi Creek and Saratoga Gap Open Space Preserve among many others. There are countless programs and educational opportunities available for every student to enhance their learning experience, making Santa Clara County a wonderful place to live in and raise a family.
