Created in 1851, Nevada County is located in the Sierra Nevada in California, with population of a little under 100,000. The county seat is Nevada City. Its name means "snowy" or "snow-covered" from Spanish. Two national protected areas are within the boundaries of the county – part of Tahoe National Forest and part of Toiyabe National Forest. Places of interest include Faucherie Campground, Nevada County Fairgrounds, Empire Mine State Historic Park and Woodchuck Campground. Nevada County is brimming with history, especially from the Gold Rush days. There’s a wide variety of activities to do – from fishing and hunting to biking, camping and hiking.
