Known for its beautiful Pacific Ocean coastline, Redwood forests and wine production, Mendocino County is located on the north coast of California, with a population of around 86,000. Its county seat is Ukiah. Mendocino County was created in 1850; its name comes from Cape Mendocino. The county boasts 50 wineries, many of which offer tours and tastings, and picnic tables for visitors. Some places of interest are Montgomery Woods State Reserve, Admiral Standley State Recreation Area, Salt Rock Camp and Sinkyone Wilderness State Park. Mendocino County is home to two community colleges - College of the Redwoods in Fort Bragg and Mendocino College in Ukiah. With a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities, there are always fun and exciting things to do.
