Formed in 1856 and located in the Central Valley of California, Fresno County is the tenth most populous county in the state. Its county seat is Fresno. Named after Fresno Creek, the word fresno comes from Spanish, meaning “ash tree.” Fresno County is number one in agricultural production in the nation, well-known for the abundant variety and quantities of produce. As the business, financial, cultural and entertainment capital of San Joaquin Valley, Fresno is home to a number of natural wonders, with easy access to three distinct National Parks, and world-renown entertainers. Visitors’ attractions in the county include Sample Meadow Campground, Lakeview Recreation Area, Cotton Lake, Abbott Creek and Lakeview Picnic Ground.
