Formed on March 25, 1853, Alameda County in California occupies most of the East Bay region in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its name means “a place where poplar trees grow”, and it’s the 7th largest county in the state with a county seat Oakland. A county fair is held every year at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, with attractions like horse racing, carnival rides and live bands. Notable locations include Sunol Valley Regional Park, Shafer Creek, Johnson Camp and Muriettas Well Winery among many others. Alameda County is home to a large number of school districts, making it a great place to live and study.
